About the Artist:
Nico van Dongen is a Dutch-born, raised and educated photographer and art professor based in San Francisco who creates "photographic time sculptures" that challenge our perception of reality. He believes that what appears to be real is relative to the observer's perception. His work seeks to emphasize the collaboration between the observer and the observed.Van Dongen's creative process involves harvesting raw digital photographs and stacking multiple images into a layered image composite, creating a visual representation that exists only in the viewer's mind. By challenging our cognitive abilities and making space for our own memories and conventions, his work questions what truth is and invites the viewer to engage by discovering new aspects of our reality.
